EL-P To Play Urban Outfitters in July

Categories: EL-P

Since SOTC's been on the upcoming show-info tip today, thought it might make sense to tell you this: El-P is playing a benefit for New Haven's WNHU 88.7 FM next month . . . in an Urban Outfitters.

Status Ain't Hood says that El-P's "not all that irritating" live (a compliment, it seems), so it might be worth your pride. All you have to do to get in is show up early on Saturday, July 14 and print out "an official event invitation" that'll be available here. Think they'll have 'EVERYBODY LOVES AN INDIE GIRL' T-shirts on sale, special for the show?

Full release below.

(New York, NY) June 13, 2007 – Free Yr Radio, an independent music campaign developed by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc. (TMS) and Urban Outfitters (URBN) comes to New York City on July 14th with a free performance by Brooklyn rapper / producer and indie hip-hop pioneer, EL-P. The free in-store concert will take place at the Avenue of the Americas’ Urban Outfitters in Manhattan.

The concert, co-presented by independent radio station WNHU 88.7 FM, will be open to music fans of all ages.

“WNHU is excited to be a part of the Free Yr Radio program. We are always looking for new ways to help grow and expand the awareness of non-commercial radio in New Haven and across the country,” says Station Manager, John Martin. “We are proud to be a part of such a program that provides a unique way to bring new music, informative public service, and great specialty shows to non-commercial stations across the country.”

The Manhattan in-store concert at Urban Outfitters is part of the year-long Free Yr Radio campaign developed by Yaris and Urban Outfitters to support the independent music scene and strengthen the non-commercial radio stations that help it thrive. The campaign includes ongoing promotional support for WNHU and 12 other non-commercial radio stations across the country.

As a partner station, WNHU will give away a new Toyota Yaris to a listener via a promotional sweepstakes developed to bring in donations to the station. The station will also receive proceeds from a compilation CD that will be released through Urban Outfitters this fall.

The in-store concert in New York marks the twelfth stop on the Free Yr Radio tour which will continue through July in major U.S. markets and include performances by some of independent music’s biggest names including Tapes ‘N Tapes, The Rapture, Klaxons, and Dinosaur Jr.

Entry to the show will be awarded to those who present an official event invitation, which can be accessed and printed from the program’s website, www.freeyrradio.com. Number of fans admitted will be subject to store’s capacity.
