And Now, For Some Kosher Holiday Blasphemy, Courtesy Good for the Jews
For those who find the usual slate of seasonal tunes a bit too bland, secular, and non-combative, behold Good for the Jews, a splendidly sardonic duo offering a whole new canon: "They Tried to Kill Us (We Survived, Let's Eat)," "Reuben the Hook-Nosed Reindeer," etc. Featuring David Fagin and Rob Tannenbaum (the latter a big-shot over at Blender, where he occasionally makes me write about stuff like this), these guys are allegedly hot shit in the burgeoning "New Super Jews" movement (as deemed by New York magazine, but you could probably have guessed that). They basically sound like Fountains of Wayne ("Jews for Jesus" rocks surprisingly hard in a power-pop sort of way), but way more irreverent, way more neurotic, way more... Jewish. Head on down to Highline Ballroom tonight to soak up the mirth in person -- Todd Barry and some other luminaries will be there as well. Request "Hot Jewish Chicks." Which is a song.
