He ain't smiling behind that thing.

So New York magazine recently weighed in on industry-beleaguered rapper Q-Tip, now on the comeback trail with long-delayed new solo album The Renaissance.* The article was sympathetic but also somewhat dour re: his chances of affecting a full-scale commercial comeback, e.g. "Q-Tip is now classic rock" and "Still, it's [Kanye] West who's winning Grammys and endorsing soft drinks, while Q-Tip is trying to warm up a hostile Knicks crowd."

The rapper now seems to have responded, in the comments section:

"damn mr. leitch!! why are u shitting on me and dick riding kanye. seems like its an assignment you didnt want to do so why do it? you should have done a DL4 assignment or better yet a 'whatever happened to fallout shelters in a Mc Carthy era new york?' piece!!! i'm good... you??? JADED!! yes this is qtip."

And one minute later: "oh i forgot... ASSHOLE."

The Mr. Leitch in question is Will Leitch, late of Deadspin, who confirms it's really Q-Tip because he also received an email from the rapper directing him to said comments, and adding, "did i bang your ex girl???"

Industry Rule #4081: Don't respond to bad press. And if you must, please refrain from doing so in text-speak.

* From the comments to that review we can discern that the Voice's own Shea Serrano is, himself, proactive in the face of criticisms to his criticism.
