Hey Willpower at Death by Audio

Hey Willpower's live show is bound to cause nightmares. It isn't the seafoam-green jumpsuit that Imperial Teen's Will Schwartz wears onstage--or the eyeful of man cameltoe assaulting the rest of us of when he dances in it. Rather, it is the creature stationed behind a MacBook, in the back--a furry bunny with droopy breasts and a big bare-skinned belly. But that's the way this San Francisco queer-pop dance band rolls, all electro-sass jams and uncomfortable sextapositions, Har Mar without the jokes, Prince without unimpeachable hits. A line like "I feel you melting in my hands" from "Magic Window"--a single off Hey Willpower's PDA, out in North America on the 20th--is both meant to be literal and cheeky, as is the beckoning, "Come to the party in my pants." I was there on Saturday, and yes, the party in Schwartz's pants was too. So was Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig (photo below). Awkward.
