Spector Gets 19 Years to Life

First the conviction, and now the sentence. Phil Spector will serve 19 years to life for killing actress Lana Clarkson in his gun-riddled mansion of a home in 2003. The AP gleefully notes that the sentence "suggests to some that California prosecutors have broken a decades-long string of celebrity murder case losses." The law demands that Spector do 15 years minimum for the murder itself; the other four years were tacked on "for personal use of a gun," a crime Spector had been well acquainted with--by many accounts--for over three decades. Spector is 69-years-old. His lawyer says "he is enduring jail by focusing on his plans to appeal." [MSNBC]
