News Roundup: R. Kelly, MGMT, Yo La Tengo, New Releases
--Eight months after the song's release, MGMT have put out a video for "Kids." The six-minute video was directed by Ray Tintori, and begins with monsters forever traumatizing a small child and ends with a crazy psychedelic cartoon. If you need to come down a little, here's Weezer performing the song last month.
--Yo La Tengo announced the release of new album Popular Songs. The disc comes out Sept. 8. It is the follow-up to 2006's I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass. The album sounds promising, judging by the band's just-released track "Periodically Double or Triple," available here. It sounds like an old Stax record, if it were recorded in the future, on acid.
--This week's new release roster sure doesn't read like 2009. '90s rock staples Rancid, Dave Matthews Band and 311 all put out new discs. We know what you're thinking, Marcy Playground, but please don't.
