Good Lord, This Warp Records 20th-Anniversary Thing Is Bananas (and the Rock Hall 25th-Anniversary Thing, If Aphex Twin Doesn't Do It for You)
Just a few hours after my fifth "when the hell is the new Battles record coming out?" conversation comes the answer: No idea, but you can hear scraps of it for the first time anywhere, as the press release boldly states, early in September at none other than Terminal 5. Brace yourselves for Warp20, a sweeping fete for the pioneering label running September 3-6, with film/video screenings at the New Museum and gigs at both the World Financial Center's Winter Garden (feat. Clark, Hudson Mohawke and whatnot) and, most remarkably, T5, which on September 4th plays host to Battles, !!!, Prefuse73, and Pivot. Shit.
More blowout anniversary news, on a slightly larger scale: This morning, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame officially announced two absurdly star-studded Madison Square Garden shows October 29-30 to mark its own 25th anniversary: Bruce Springsteen, U2, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel, etc. etc. etc. And this, just hours after my 50th "when's the new Crosby, Stills and Nash record coming out?" conversation.
