This Weekend! Ten Reasons Why You're Going to Siren Festival

You're going to the Siren Music Festival, and here's 10 reasons why:

1. Admission is free.

2. It's your last chance to catch Frightened Rabbit in New York this summer. Frontman Scott Hutchison, noted for slopping "filthy, twisted stuff on top of really quite polished bass," sings about dismembered organs and feces through a really quite sexy brogue.

3. If Hutchison's bloody Scottish humor gets you squirming, Future of the Left will be on hand with dry, virile British humor covering the likes of Michael Jackson, Catholics, and slutty California girls.

4. It's the Raveonettes' first show since recording their upcoming album, "In and Out of Control," which means plenty of new material from these noisy Danish expats.

5. You'll be the first to know what Monotonix frontman Ami Shalev is dangling from and/or letting dangle in the open Coney Island air.

6. Gawky Built to Spill fans may emote free of unwanted human contact, because anyone sociable will have fled to the Stillwell Avenue stage for Spank Rock.

7. With thousands of gawky Built to Spill fans counting on him to drive away anyone sociable, Spank Rock knows better than to play hooky again.

8. You'll alleviate that chip on your shoulder over missing that Japandroids gig.

9. See Frank Black join the venerable ranks of Alt-Rock Guys who Rock Out with their Wives.

10. Ted Leo DJs. (...hruh?!)

Also free: Superchunk present some fresh "pogo-jumping slacker rock" at South Street Seaport this evening. And Sunday, the Dirty Projectors join Magnoilia Electric Company at the East River Park Tennis Courts.

Not free: The Official Siren After Party at the Music Hall, featuring Francis and the Lights, Acrylics, Gordon Voidwell, and a Micachu & the Shapes DJ set. Also, jungle production team Radioclit joins vocalist Esau Mwamwaya as the Very Best late night Saturday, and the Clientele finally turn up the volume on Sunday.

PS, The annual Rock the Bells tour is back at Jones Beach on Sunday, with the most comprehensive hip-hop lineup of the year. Check it:
