New Free Energy's "Free Energy" Is Making Us Miss All Kinds of Things Right Now

The only time the DFA-signed, cheerfully glam Philly quintet Free Energy has let us down so far was at the Mercury Lounge, where they awkwardly shuffled through a set that was surely affected by the visibly uncomfortable jeans the frontman was wearing. (They'll hopefully avenge themselves on New York next week, at After the Jump.) But man, no one sounds like this band right now, even if they kind of sound like everyone: T. Rex, Thin Lizzy, Tom Petty, Gary Glitter, etc. Our summer has not been worthy of "Dream City." And, good for them, they have a theme song--"Free Energy," the video to which just premiered at Stereogum. If you happen to be from Philadelphia it will make you homesick. And if you've ever had nothing better to do than to play in a band and sometimes throw parties with balloons and pretty girls, well, it will make you sick for that time too.
