Spike Lee's Michael Jackson Birthday Party Is Moving to Prospect Park

After widespread alarm by citizens and city officials about "crowd control" and potential chaos in Fort Greene around Spike Lee's Michael Jackson tribute block party next weekend, the city announced today that event will move from Fort Greene Park to the center of Prospect Park. Jackson is no longer being buried on his birthday, as originally planned, but Brooklyn will apparently make a go of it regardless. [NYTimes]

Thank you so much Mr lee. The attachment of your name serves to counter some of the negativity and sensationalism put out by the press. Observing from London, I have felt much anger and frustration watching the profound disrespect Congress and certain inevitable personalities have shown Michael's passing. It has made the grieving harder and shown us all a degree of the prejudice and judgement Michael faced while he lived. Like so many others, I didn't realize how much a part of my heart Michael's music and essence is (I cannot say was.) Since the 26th, I have watched countless youtube performances and interviews, and now know a little of how truly rare and beautiful Michael is). Clearly given a complex task on earth, Michael's contribution here was immeasurable. His innocence unquestionable, I know the truth of that will be revealed in the fullness of time. I will be playing Mj loud on the 29th, and yeah, I'll cry but I'll be dancing a storm too - with love and pride.
