Stream the Perplexing Entirety of fun.'s Aim & Ignite

It's a little bit hard to know how to take the New York City-based band fun., whose existence dates back only a short year, to when the Format's Nate Ruess, former Anathallo member Andrew Dost, and Steel Train's Jack Antonoff started playing together in the winter of 2008. Their debut, Aim & Ignite, is out August 25th on Nettwerk, but the record is streaming in its entirety over at MySpace.

fun.--annoying punctuation by design--would not be out of place on a bill with Free Energy; both bands grok glammy '70s pop and glam rock (Queen, T. Rex, etc.), with nods to the Gary Glitter/Ace Frehley "New York Groove" percussion stomp that permeates so much of that era's rock music. Redd Kross's Steven McDonald seems to have produced Aim & Ignite, which tells you something, and former Imperial Teen member and Beck/Air arranger Roger Joseph Manning Jr helped out as well. It's all sort of delightful and abhorrent at the same time. RCRD LBL has "Barlights," the brightly euphoric single from the record we feel least ambivalent about, available for free download, and you can hear the rest at the band's site. Go forth and be puzzled.
