A Guide To This Weekend's Holiday-Party Glut

If there's one thing that people of all faiths can agree on, it's that the best thing about the "Holiday Season" is all the parties. There's nothing quite like sipping on some good ol' rum punch with your co-workers or donning your cheesiest Xmas swag for your apartment-building potlucks. Once you're done with the eggnog and awkward conversation, put your dancing shoes on and head out to the real parties this weekend.

Lucky for us, there's an endless number of things to do tonight. Chances are you won't even have to leave your neighborhood to find a Santa-themed fete to keep you warm. In Brooklyn, Ninjasonik throws what's bound to be a screamy-sweaty-moshpit of a show at Rockstar Bar. It's said to feature "secret guests" (our money is on Spankrock). Trouble & Bass team up with Mishka for a rave-tastic fete at Public Assembly featuring Rico Tubbs and just-announced Udachi, all for $7. Also at Public Assembly (back room!), the Subway Soul Club celebrates their 8th birthday party. But our pick for Brooklyn tonight would have to be Snack N Cmish's last-minute BYOB loft party featuring Stilove4music's DJ Rahaan alongside Monk One and Snack N Cmish themselves. More info on that here.

Stuck in the city for the night? Head to Santos for the always-popular OPEN, featuring a guest DJ set by A-Trak. You can expect a bit of a line and a $15 cover, but it's worth it to see him play some actual rap (and don't forget to check out DJ Gravy in the basement). Mark Ronson and Aaron Lacrate play Webster Hall, and while I don't have anything nice to say about the latter, this is a rare chance to catch Ronson outside of the bottle-service clubs he's used to these days. For no frills and a more laid-back atmosphere, head to APT--DJ Eleven and DJ Moma throw down a special "strictly r&b" version of their Special Delivery party.

On the EDM circuit, Turntables on the Hudson's Nickodemus celebrates the launch of his Wonderwheel Recordings albums at Drom. The night features Mr. Cairo and Pimps of Joytime, with Nikodemus DJing between sets. LA's house guru Marques Wyatt drops in for Deep at Cielo, Dub War residents bring Wordsound's Sensational and Spectre with Skull Disco's Badawi to the rave-cave that is Love, and Germany's minimal-house Dirt Crew celebrates their anniversary at Sullivan Room. Phew.

If you've somehow managed to recover from the night before, make the most of your Santa hat and do it again on Saturday. DFA throws their holiday bash--featuring Free Energy, Special Disco Version, and Holy Ghost!--at Le Poisson Rouge for a mere $8, while David Bruno and crew host their disco-themed People Don't Dance No More danceparty at Beast for $5.

In Brooklyn, Japanther and Cerebral Ballzy are set to perform at a "secret venue" (a/k/a the Bushwick Music Studio, 55 Waterbury at Meserol 286 Scholes Street) -- check here for more info. Fool's Gold throws a dance party featuring Just Blaze, reggae-maestro Max Glazer, co-founder Nick Catchdubs, and SF label-mate Trackademiks ... Get there early, it ends at midnight! If you're in Williamsburg, head to Savalas for Strictly Hits--the Rub's DJ Ayres and Unruly Records' Emynd & Bo Bliz will manning be dance floor at my own birthday bash! Happy Holidays!
