If you listen to only one biblical-themed rock record this year, it's gotta be the Mountain Goats' The Life of the World to Come, explored by SOTC's own Zach Baron here and featured tonight as the Goats take Webster Hall with Final Fantasy. Note: Frontman John Darnielle's fans can be pretty intense. 
Elsewhere, Grammy-hoarding r&b starlet Alicia Keys does a relatively intimate Nokia Theatre gig, alt-metalers Russian Circles ("similar to fellow Chicago residents Pelican") hit Bowery Ballroom, and street-funk kingpins the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble team up with Puja Patel-approved CMJ stars Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew at B.B. King's.
