This Weekend! Les Savy Fav, Vivian Girls, Here We Go Magic, St. Vincent, Rain Machine, Anti-Pop Consortium, Mission of Burma, And Free Blood

What better way to spend your Friday night than watching a potbellied, balding redhead scream at you? That's right, Les Savy Fav is back in town. The raucously experimental rockers are headlining the first night of BAM's Sounds Like Brooklyn festival. Evening out LSF frontman Tim Harrington's jolly but imposing antics are lo-fi darlings the Vivian Girls. If you'd rather not sweat tonight, you can always drone-out to the plodding Afro-beat folk of Here We Go Magic at the Music Hall of Williamsburg or get your hoity-toity on at Lincoln Center for some articulately crafted indie pop by St. Vincent. Post-punk papas Mission of Burma are also stopping by, at Bowery Ballroom.

BAM's festival continues Saturday night with Rain Machine, a/k/a Kyp Malone, a/k/a the guy with that incredible beard from TV on the Radio. Anti-Pop Consortium will be opening. For those who missed out on Mission of Burma, no need to pout -- they're doing a second Bowery Ballroom show. There's also a scuzzy lo-fi happening brewing at Shea Stadium with Weekends, Sisters, Fluffy Lumbers, Total Slacker, and the beautifully named Golden Girls, who wrote the equally beautifully named song "Amateur Teen Sex Attics." That's not a typo.

Sunday is a meager day for live shows, but that's okay: The art installation "Never Records" is open on Broadway and West 4th. It's a conceptual record store that doesn't sell any records, housing "record bins, cash registers, poster racks, large reproductions of fake album covers, and a statue of a record-store employee." The other alternative is to groove to some spastically kitschy dance-pop at the behest of Free Blood, who're at Glasslands.
