On The New Pornographers' "Your Hands Together," Which You Can Listen To, Right Now

new pornos together.jpg
I don't mean to alarm anyone, but an initial spin through the New Pornographers' imminent Together reminded me for some reason of the Dirty Projectors more than once, Carl Newman commanding a half-glib, half-baroque choir of backing vocalists (Neko Case counts for, like, 10 normal people) in the service of tunes balanced between pop immediacy and fussy intricacy, etc. "Your Hands Together," from said album (out May 4), is available for your perusal now. It's no "The Laws Have Changed" in terms of cheerfulness or anthem potential, but then, well, the laws did. Note also that there's a song on this record called "Valkyrie and the Roller Disco."
