Fool's Gold, rocking the West Side
Arguably more significant than Valentine's Day, the third-annual Dre Day will commence at the Music Hall of Williamsburg: Let us gather, celebrate the life and times of Mr. Andre Young, and pray Detox into existence. Instead of mourning your inability to sneak into the sold-out Mumford and Sons show at Bowery Ballroom, head to the Highline Ballroom for Tinariwen and Fool's Gold, the latter serving up a night of incompressible Hebrew lyricism mashed with break-beat Tropicalia. (Our chat with them is here.) And for you limb-breaking types, pile into Maxwell's and, after opener Kurt Vile, watch Fucked Up unleash Pink Eyes for a punk-rock peep show as he rips off his clothes and tears apart his vocal chords. (We promise this is better than it sounds.) Finally, Dan Black and spastic electro-bopping duo Free Blood are playing the Mercury Lounge, while the Growlers chime in for some fuzzy surf jams at Pianos.
