This Weekend! Toro Y Moi, Ruby Suns, Holy Ghost!, Bear Hands, Gil Scott-Heron, Talib Kweli, Spoon, Deerhunter, Basseko Kouyate, Miike Snow, Crystal Stilts, Love Is All, Lymbyc System, Glass Ghost, And The Big Pink

Making up for last week's paucity of shows thanks to SXSW and MtyMx, the city has an overstuffed dance card this weekend. First, chilllwave maestro Toro Y Moi will be playing with Tropicalia breakbeat-borrowers the Ruby Suns at Brooklyn Bowl. To quote one of the latter's tunes, "Kenya dig it?" Holy Ghost!, a group who can turn "Lisztomania" into a funkified rave, will DJ at Glasslands as groove-riffers Bear Hands take the stage later that night. As for the two Ultimate Combo shows, weathered r&b bard Gil Scott-Heron will join Talib Kwelli at Littlefield; uptown, Deerhunter pairs with Spoon at Radio City. (You know how much we love us some Spoon.) And while London's "second-fav proto-dubstep producer," Benga, stars at Webster Hall, Bassekou Kouyate shreds on the banjo's infinitely cooler ancestor, the ngoni, at Carnegie Hall, while Kouyate's wife, Amy Sacko, will be singing songs of "empire, praise, and circumcision." In short, the perfect resolve to your night.

On Saturday, the Swedish arrive. Electro-poppers Miike Snow, probably the only band at SXSW who has written a Grammy-winning Britney Spears song, will synth out at Webster Hall. Meanwhile, fellow countrymen Love is All take their exclamatory punk to Maxwell's alongside Crystal Stilts. At Glasslands, Lymbyc System, who are sort of like "Mogwai as pushed through Anticon's hip-hop-centric artfuck machine," will celebrate their latest release, Shutter, with Glass Ghost and Slow Six. To cap the night, Shearwater will perform at Bowery Ballroom, much to the delight of the city's dramatic bird-lovers (you know who you are).

Sunday makes room for catch-up, as Miike Snow returns for their third show of the week, this time at Bowery Ballroom. Love Is All will play again, too, but with the support of Beach Fossils' frantic picnic pop at the Knitting Factory. Ending the weekend is the Big Pink at Maxwell's, serving up that nonchalantly chest-beating, alpha-male chorus of theirs, "These girls fall like dominoes!!"
