I Don't Go Clubbing, I Go Dancing: The Weekend In Nightlife, Starring Hot Chip, Basement Bhangra, Dam Funk, Carl Craig, And Gordon Voidwell

​Tonight Hot Chip performs at Terminal 5 alongside Gang Gang Dance... but you knew that already. Tickets have been sold out for weeks; so go nuts on Craigslist, stand outside an hour before the doors, or just go to the afterparty, which goes down at Webster Hall with the Hot Chip fellas on the turntables and a guest DJ set by Juan Maclean. Though there's something lost when settling for a celebrity-DJ-set over a real-live-performance by a great act, we'll admit that these guys are actually quite adept behind the turntables. They're joined by Fixed's JDH and Dave P and all the usual Webster Hall fluff. Tickets are $15 online, and more at the door.

For a more accessible diversion, Basement Bhangra celebrates their 13th anniversary at Fillmore. The monthly fete is a longtime staple for Thursday-night partygoers looking for a mix of hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, and of course, bhangra. Founder and resident DJ Rekha headlines and hosts; the massive celebration also features live performances by Nina Sky, Raghav, and The Tabla Guy. Federation Sound's Max Glazer is a scheduled guest DJ (one among many); you can expect Bollywood dance lessons and similar antics all night. The event is all ages, and tickets are $15 online.

If you're up for worldly sounds but would rather stay in Brooklyn, head to Littlefield for the Hot It Up party. The monthly event hosts a rotation of DJs backed by live drummers and dancers. Expect a mix of cumbia, dancehall, afro-beat, funk, and booty bass from Dutty Artz's Gecko Jones (also responsible for Que Bajo), Reaganomics, and DJ Stylus with Mackie Burnette's Panorama Steel Band on the beats. Did we mention that this is outside? The whole thing costs you a mere $5 before midnight, $8 afterwards. Do it.

On Saturday, start off your weekend with a trip to one of the first P.S.1 Saturday Sessions of the year. The day party starts at 4pm and features art installations and printmaking workshops courtesy of Fourth Estate. Even better, you'll be provided with a blank LP sleeve to screenprint yourself (first come, first serve of course). Group Tightener co-founder DJ Rezound will be on the decks for the afternoon soiree, and Real Estate take the stage at 6pm. The whole party is a deal at a $5 recommended donation, cash bar on site and all!

Afterwards, head to the World Yacht Marina and jump aboard the Temptress for the Rocks Off Concert Cruise. LA's Dam Funk headlines the trip down the Hudson with his modern twist on classic funk and synth-infused soul jams. Detroit-based Waajeed (of Platinum Pied Pipers notoriety) is also featured on the turntables. The boat sets sail at 8pm sharp; tickets are $20 online, $25 at the dock. Or, head downtown to 92Y for a little more funk of a very different variety. Brooklyn's Gordon Voidwell hosts a release party for his upcoming single, "Ivy League Circus", with a performance that's part funkadelic, part jazz, part disco, and part electro-rap (just trust us with this one). Also scheduled to perform? Boy Crisis and champion funny-guys Das Racist.

On the EDM circuit, techno superstar Carl Craig headlines Sullivan Room's sixth anniversary. Not only is the legend partially responsible for the creation and artistic direction of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, but he serves as a poster child for diversity within the EDM scene. Crediting the likes of Derrick May and Juan Atkins as mentors, the DJ's twenty-odd years in the scene has made the Detroit-born DJ a masterful producer of everything from jazzy house hits to hard hitting techno. Besides, we'll totally celebrate Sullivan Room's dedication to a stripped-down, no-inhibitions dance party. (Here's to six more!) Tickets are $20 online, grab them while you can. And if you're looking for something with a little more swing, head into Brooklyn for Midnight Magic at Cocco 66. The fete features a live performance by the band of the same name - a disco-vibed dance outfit with Jessica 6 (from Hercules and the Love Affair) on vocals. Then Fully Fitted's XXXChange and Ghostdad take over the turntables to keep you dancing the rest of the night.
