In Memorium: Type O Negative Frontman Peter Steele
Sad news in the realm of defiantly goofy goth-metal: Type O Negative frontman Peter Steele died of heart failure yesterday. He was 48. He was also more than six and a half feet tall, capable of playing an upright bass sideways, and named "Peter Steele." He was a badass, in other words, but not without a morbid sense of humor. (Hence the great 2005 "Peter Steele is dead" hoax.) Time Out New York has a nice primer on the dude (Playgirl spread!); I will admit that "Love You to Death" made it on a mixtape or two back in my high school romance days. It's a wonder I wasn't arrested.
