New Hold Steady: "The Weekenders"

So, if you're keeping track, the Hold Steady's promotional plan for Heaven Is Whenever seems pretty clear at this point--premieres at the clip of about one song per week, streaming on a variety of blogs and websites that now include Pitchfork, Vulture, and today, MTV's excellent Buzzworthy Blog, which unveiled "The Weekenders" earlier this morning. Tough to really live with this stuff off streams, but right now, we're picking this one as our favorite--maybe for entirely because of this Finn couplet: "I remember the metal bar/I remember the reservoir." Not convinced? How about "She said the theme of this party's the Industrial Age/And you came in dressed like a train wreck"? Easy to see by now why the band's been conditioning expectations about the relative anthemic quotient of Heaven Is Whenever; the edges on these new songs are way softer, even when they get loud. Guess that's what happens when your youth crew turns into a men's club. Listen below, or at Buzzworthy.
