• Hello, My name is Sinevil. I live in Denton, Texas. I have a band called Slackbeat. I am studying to be an ethnomusicologist.We are are an improvised/written noise group with electric banjo,bass, drums,prepared instruments and voice. I wanted to see if you would review our music. • Yeah, "scumbag" seems a bit out of context. Like the organ player covering a Violent Femmes melody before the next pitch. "Inter-active demonstration" might be better than "dissertation", especially for 8-12 year olds that are still in preschool. Hopefully the lecture didn't get into the physics of sound, acoustical properties & whatnot... Children improvise naturally; in various ways, & their most natural voices are easily spooked. So long as the volume is under control & there aren't any power cord issues, I'd say just play.

• RE: "are you a total scumbag if you take your kid to an hour-long dissertation on white noise by one of the founding members of Sonic Youth" Well, I don't think scumbag is really the word your looking for. Masochist would be far more accurate. I am in possession of a 7 and a half year old boy, and I'll tell you, the only way this event could be successful is if Prof. Moore is hoping to get a LOT of audience participation. If parents feel pressured to keep their kid sitting in an upright position, not making rude comments, it will be painful for them due to the utter impossibility of the task. If The Point of the exercise is to get as many kids complaining in one room as possible- you will have your magnum opus! Could be genius, could be sheer misery; such a fine delicate line. I, sadly, will be unable to attend because I will be at the park playing tag with my son. Sincere wishes of good luck to you!
