Dept. Of Why The Hell Not: Sam Amidon Covered "Walking On Sunshine" For Brooklyn Vegan

brooklyn vegan sunshine.jpg
We here at SOTC are great fans of eerily serene NYC-ish folkie Sam Amidon -- or at least, fans of his otherworldly skill with cover songs. And so the news that a) Katrina and the Waves' "Walking on Sunshine" is 25 years old, b) Brooklyn Vegan is celebrating this fact by curating a celebratory EP, and C) the EP includes Sam's own banjo-and-monotone cover ... that's all pretty weird, but not that weird. Listen to it here; more details on the BV EP coming soon. In terms of Amidon covers it can't possibly top his treatment of R. Kelly's "Relief," but the moment when he deadpans, "I used to think maybe you loved me/Now baby I'm surrrre" is cheering all the same. Listen to this now to take your mind off the fact that the Lost finale was some bullshit.
