"I'm-a whoop yo' ass at bowling, Alan Palomo."
Tonight, alt.celebrities defend the Eastern wilderness in Stereogum's inaugural bowling tournament, a/k/a the 'Gum Bowl, at Brooklyn Bowl. So after Marnie Stern beats the shit out of Neon Indian, a free (with RSVP) concert shall commence, featuring lo-fi folk lumberjacks Woods and "bleak, rattling dub-punk" YIMBY pick Effi Briest, followed by a DJ set from St. Vincent. Meanwhile, a MOMA fundraiser will be underway in the museum's garden, where the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will perform for the Daddy Ruxpins of New York. (In other nonprofit news, Japanther blast punk rock at Galapagos in the name of Girls Write Now, an after-school writing program for under-served teenage girls.) Elsewhere, Taken by Trees, the cutesy, twee group that infamously crafted a feminist rendition of Animal Collective's "My Girls," is playing at Le Poisson Rouge, while at Webster Hall, psych-rock pioneer and former 13th Floor Elevators frontman Roky Erickson is touring his latest album with backing band Okkervil River. (More on that here.)
