We Just Survived the Worst Week For Music Sales In All of SoundScan History
So, one more qualification for Arcade Fire's still pretty respectable #2 this week: they snagged it amidst the worst seven days in SoundScan history. The industry managed to move a paltry 4.95 million units last week, a number that ranks as "the lowest weekly sales figure since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991," according to Billboard. (For context, 'N Sync once sold 2.4 million records in a single week, all by themselves.) And so May 30, 2010--the previous low--slips off the record books, along with the pride, dignity, and hope of anyone unfortunate enough to still work in this industry. When is that Kanye record coming out again? [Billboard]![]()
