Voodoo Funk, Derrick Carter, Questlove, And Horse Meat Disco Headline Your Weekend In Nightlife

We're going to stay away from Friday the 13th. Nothing good can come of it. Instead, start your weekend off on Saturday afternoon at PS1's Warm Up. It's a weird group of acts, really. Fool's Gold's funky-disco-infused house guru Treasure Fingers and catchy dance producer Kingdom man the decks for the afternoon. Later in the evening, Questlove takes over, during which we expect he'll school all those house fiends on hip-hop and funk. Whatever, we're not mad. $15 tickets include entry to MoMA.

If there's anything else that's bound to draw us in, it's the news of a secret foreign dance party coming to NYC. Tonight, Severino and Filthy Luka of London's Horse Meat Disco take over Santos for an evening of debauchery. Expect to dance to a mix of dub, Italo, and electro-funk alongside a mix of foreigners and glittered-out gays. The promoters like to compare their vibe to that of a forest rave -- home to fashionistas, naturists, club kids, and "guerilla drag queens" -- so we can only hope that it will live up to the circus we're looking for here. New York's DJ Spun rounds out the disco inferno. Tickets here. Alternately, you can enjoy your night outdoors (weather looks gloomy all next week) and head over to Water Taxi Beach for the appropriately named Beach Party. Detroit's Juan Atkins and Chicago house luminary DJ Pierre headline the all-day event. You're in for free before 6 p.m., or you can pay $10 after.

In fact, you might as well stay through Saturday night and welcome in Sunday afternoon at Water Taxi Beach, when Basic NYC and Dance Here Too bring Chicago house maestro Derrick Carter to this daytime dance party. We recommend you bring some sunscreen and sweat out last night's hangover to the DJ's rare grooves and finds -- you'll find mostly house blended with soul, jazz, and disco in the mix today. Locals Sleepy & Boo join the festivities. $10 tickets available here now, $25 the longer you wait to get them. For more outdoor-music therapy, head over to Brooklyn Fireproof for Sunday Best. The party's residents (Eamon Harkin, Justin Carter, and Doug Singer) have a knack for bringing out a great lineup of disco and deep-house DJs to their summer soiree, but every now and then an unfamiliar name will get thrown in the mix. Today is one of those days, as Afro-disco fiend Frank Gossner (a/k/a Voodoo Funk) joins the trio. Afro-centric, as in, the DJ has a collection of rare finds from crate-digging in West Africa. Expect an extra-funky, extra-raw, extra-awesome set of things you've never heard before. Tickets are $10 at the door.

If you prefer the indoors, head to a dance party with a view. First things first, Unnatural Disasters is a pretty awful name for a party that takes place on the roof. That said, keep your wits about you and head to the penthouse of the Rivington Hotel for Verboten's deep-house afternoon-into-evening soiree. The 12-hour party features Germany's Ame, a Detroit-house influenced DJ duo that specializes in old-school, soulful grooves. There's a pop-up shop, an art installation, and some other fluff in the mix; $15 tickets here. If you prefer something free (and on the West Side), head over to the Standard's Le Bain for the eighth edition of Ete D'Amour. Runaway and DFA's Jaques Renault and Tiki Disco's Unemployed Lloyd hold down the decks overlooking the Hudson River. The party starts at 6 p.m., and admission is based on "bouncer's discretion" -- which is code for "get there early."
