Week In Review: "You Died! Luckily This Is Just A Video Game."

In a week wherein we bid adieu to both Fat Beats and Paste magazine, we needed something to fill the void, be that the Das Racist video game or, far less pleasantly, a glowering, shirtless Rick Ross. Good thing this one's over with.

We also experienced the last Jelly Pool Party (of the year, at least), enlivened by Gucci Mane, DMC, Tim Harrington, and Andrew W.K.; elsewhere, we wilded out to the indie-rock-goes-Latin stylings of the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra , Aussie metalheads Destroyer 666, indie supergroup the Babies, and perhaps most enjoyably, the old-school hip-hop Rock the Bells blowout at Governors Island, featuring an inarguably great Snoop Dogg and a very arguably great Lauryn Hill.

All Tomorrow's Parties is this weekend, which, if you're not reading this on an iPhone or whatever on your way up there, you'd better go now -- we chatted with the ever-irascible Steve Albini and the ever-hallucinogenic Flying Lotus, who'll both be up there. If it's free MP3s you seek, Yes in My Backyard featured new jams highlighting the "indescribable, codeine-ready micro-ruckus" of Callers and Brooklyn chug-monsters Elks.

More frovolity: Audition to be Pavement's third guitarist for a night, hang out with the DFA crew uptown at Hudson Hotel, watch in horror as Justin Bieber fans threaten Mylie Cyrus' life, marvel at the Times' ability to write about "Fuck You" without saying "fuck you," or buy a lapdance off Princess Superstar for $10,000.

And now, a long weekend is mercifully upon us: plenty of stuff to do out there. But if you'd rather stay in, we repeat: Das Racist has a video game. See you Tuesday.
