GOOD Friday: Kanye West Begrudgingly Drops "Christian Dior Denim Flow," Preps for SNL
Kanye West was not himself this week. Online, at least, where West has enjoyed repeated recent successes, he was frustrated and felt betrayed by the leak of an unauthorized, unfinished track called "Lost in the World." "It would have seemed like since I give free music every week even the lowest form of human being would respect that enough not to leak unfinished songs from my real album," he wrote. And so we were to be punished: "Due to blogs leaking unfinished songs from my actual album I've decided to pass of Good Fridays this week." He had a point. Fast forward to Friday -- the wee hours of Saturday, really -- and West drops "Christian Dior Denim Flow" with little of his usual enthusiasm and without even tweeting a link. Just "fuuuuck I need some sleep."
Regardless, the result is yet another good track. For the third consecutive week the song tops six minutes and again features a list of high-profile guests. Compared to earlier GOOD Fridays, this line-up seems like the B-team -- skipping Swizz Beatz, Jay-Z and Raekwon for Kid Cudi, Lloyd Banks and Ryan Leslie -- but that is just another example of Kanye West spoiling the internet.
Pusha T is back, too, for a fourth time and again delivers some of the song's strongest moments with an obviously brand new verse: "We conversate a bit about your DNA/ And my salmon-colored suit from the VMAs/ Oh, you was watching?/ Who the fuck wasn't?"
Kanye's distorted, fashion world verse (namedrops for Cecily Lopez, Selita Ebanks, Jessica Stam, etc.), though, is not even his most important appearance of the day, with that honor going to his revealing turn on Chris Brown's "Deuces" remix, released earlier on Friday. There, West raps openly about a break-up, presumably with Amber Rose, and puts a spin on the burgeoning Advice Rap trend by relaying an elder's message himself: "Jay finally got it through my head not to run my mouth/ So when you talk about you-know-who, I don't know who you're talking 'bout."
As for his weekend, tonight Kanye West is scheduled to perform on Saturday Night Live. So presumably, if he is in any sort of funk, it will be short-lived.
