In the week we continued counting down the worst songs of 2010, noting atrocities from Susan Boyle, Liz Phair, Christina Aguilera, Jackyl, and NeverShoutNever, and Die Antwoord, we also began our overall year in review, listing the 10 biggest music stories of 2010, our 10 favorite concerts, the top 10 NSFW music videos of the year, and a primer on the year in hardcore from our pal and former Status Ain't Hood blogger Tom Breihan.

Farewell, Ariel Panero.

The National helped Yo La Tengo finish out their eight nights at Maxwell's. Bonny Prince Billy & the Cairo Gang played dress-up at Town Hall. Dimitri From Paris and François K pushed Deep Space even deeper at Cielo. Mannie Fresh showed up late to Santos Party House. Syl Johnson socked it to 'em at Southpaw. Hall & Oates did the hits at Beacon Theatre. And yes, Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum performed a surprise show in Brooklyn last Saturday night; read co-organizer Ben Goldberg's explanation for why you weren't there here.

Author Dan Charnas, author of The Big Payback: The History Of The Business Of Hip-Hop, told us about Lyor Cohen's CD collection. The Men stopped by to give away "Bataille." And local disco-noise dudes Mirror Mirror broke down their "Interiors (Jamstation Exterior Remix)" for us.

Plus hip-hop's ten greatest sneaker songs, the best of the #FatIndieBands hashtag, remembering John Lennon, our pal Rich Juzwiak ripped off by a TV show, again, and more, below. Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out our nightlife guide. We're back on Monday.
