Week In Review: Confirming Kanye's Inevitable Victory

P&J kanye cover.jpg
So we put out Pazz & Jop this week. We're pretty happy with it. As are Kanye West and Cee Lo Green, hopefully. Lots of essays and lists and numbers to absorb there, so spend some time if you haven't yet, and if you have, please enjoy our bonus post-mortem analysis: some context for Kanye's record-breaking victory, some charts showing what the poll would've looked like without him, and some bonus lists measuring Enthusiasm, Hipness, Metalism, and Kvltosis, the last of which I still don't understand, but that only makes it cooler.

We also did other stuff, honest.

To wit: We talked to Harlem rapper Donny Goines about the life and death of producer Disco D (a two-parter!), chatted with Flynt Flossy of Turquoise Jeep/"Lemme Smang It" fame, got the scoop on the Phil and the Osophers guy's stint on Wheel of Fortune, and dealt with the wobbly return of American Idol. Yes, Tom Breihan is back.

As for live shows, we took in Questlove DJIng at Cielo, garage-rockers the Smith Westerns at Glasslands, a noise-rock blowout starring AIDS Wolf at Death by Audio, Dan Deacon at the Ecstatic Music Festival, the Jayhawks at Webster Hall, Toro Y Moi at Mercury Lounge, Magik Markers at Psychotropa, and Matt & Kim DJIng at the Museum of Natural History.

Stuff to listen to: MNDR's new single, a sweet local metal comp, all 13 globalFEST sets, and YIMBY goodness from ambient dude Beauclerk and Indonesian fusion from Gamelan Dharma Swara.

Also, our Are You Smarter Than a Rock Critic? feature rolls on, this week featuring the Clash, and growing ever more embarrassing for all involved.

This didn't feel like a short week, but it apparent was one. Here's some stuff to do this weekend. We'll see you Monday.
