LCD Soundsystem Will Play Their Last Show Ever at Madison Square Garden

For our money: there have been few New York acts in the last decade as consistently exciting and rewarding as LCD Soundsystem. It was James Murphy who best chronicled the ecstatic rise and befuddling fall of the early aughts NYC creative class; and, with last year's This Is Happening, he helped point the way forward, too, making a severely personal record about coming to the end of a long professional and romantic daydream. The record's downer tone announced the end of the band long before Murphy made it official; the question was for how much longer we'd have them, and now we know. On April 2, the band will say farewell. And they'll do it in an unlikely but fitting location: Madison Square Garden. They announced the news over the weekend:

good people of earth: lcd soundsystem are playing madison square garden on april 2nd, and it will be our last show ever. we are retiring from the game. gettin' out. movin' on. but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours-playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang. and we'd like you to be there.

if you would, we'd love it if people all came in white. or black. or black and white. and come ready to have fun, please. and come early, as the festivities will be opened by our favorites, liquid liquid. yes: liquid liquid.

if it's a funeral, let's have the best funeral ever!!!

Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 11, though they also say to check their website and Pitchfork for some sort of mid-week "fan pre-sale." A three hour LCD Soundsystem show would be something to look forward to pretty much whenever; that it will be their last should really put things over the top. This is our chance to do that Pavement-in-Central-Park thing right--with a band that is going out with dignity and at the top of their game, rather than doing it doused in cynicism, ten years too late. Let's enjoy it while we can, New York.
