A Musical Guide to Japan Benefits and Valiantly Intentioned Fundraising Efforts, Featuring Thrill Jockey and Rebecca Black

​"I've been inspired by Japan for many years and have a true love, appreciation and respect for the Japanese people and their culture," said early American-adopter and purveyor of Japan's Harajuku girl style, Gwen Stefani. "The disaster in Japan is beyond heartbreaking and I want to do anything I can do to help." Stefani has already donated $1 million to Save the Children's Japanese relief efforts, and sometime this week she'll be selling Harajuku Lovers t-shirts of her own design for the same cause. Stefani is, as you may've noticed, isn't the only artist who is attempting to rally for relief efforts. A guide to some of the best.

Thrill Jockey got over sixty artists including School of Seven Bells, Akron/Family, Grouper and Tim Hecker to contribute to their two-disc benefit compilation dedicated to the victims and survivors, their families, and the aid workers courageously struggling to deal with the aftermath of the earthquake.

The Wonder Years, Valencia, Man Overboard, Transit and more have rounded-up a bunch of rare tracks for their benefit compilation, Vs. The Earthquake. It's just five dollars, and all proceeds go to Americares.

Not quite the "We Are The World" all-in-one-room sort of star power, but this iTunes compellation has an impressive tracklist, including something by everyone from John Lennon to Justin Bieber. Some songs are inspired ("Shelter From The Storm," maybe even "Firework), others, well, we're not sure (Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie" seems questionable), but it's all for a good cause. Jonsi and Alex, Max Richter, Ryuchi Sakamoto, Balmorhea, Biosphere, Jon Hopkins, Alva Noto and others have contributed to Unseen Music's ambient/experimental compilation, For Nihon. 100% of the profits go to Japan Society's Earthquake Relief Fund.

RZA posted a new track to Soundcloud, Gab-Gotcha's "Japan," for free download in support of Japan.

The Morning Benders, who were scheduled to play in Japan the week of the earthquake, have released Japan Echo, an EP that includes a few original songs and several more remixes. All sales go towards the Japan Society's Earthquake Relief Fund.

Shows
Patti Smith, Tony Shanahan and Cibo Matto will be joining Yoko Ono and her Plastic Ono band tonight at Le Poisson Rouge for Yoko Ono & Friends To Japan With Love. Tickets are $100, but a bill like this is special, and, of course, all proceeds go to relief efforts.

Thurston Moore, Norah Jones, Jesse Harris and a slew of others will be at the Abrons Arts Center on April 8th preforming two shows for the Japan Society's Earthquake Relief Fund.

The following day, the Japan Society is throwing a 12-hour Concert for Japan, featuring Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, John Zorn, Bill Laswell and Ryuichi Sakamoto and benefiting those affected by the earthquake and tsunamis. The day includes access to the Society's current exhibition, "Bye Bye Kitty!!!" and origami crane and washi lantern making.

Brooklyn Bowl is set to host "Rock 4 Japan" on April 12, a donation-based benefit show with proceeds going to the Red Cross's relief efforts. So far, the line-up includes Cheap Trick or Treat, Acey Slade, The Orion Experience, High Teen Boogie, The Youngthings and more. The Orion Experience has also recorded a new single, "Nippon Ga Dai Suki (Japan We Love You)," available on iTunes, and committed all proceeds to The Jewish Federations of North America's Japan Relief Fund.

Lady Gaga is selling "We Pray For Japan" bracelets that she designed herself for $5. When Gaga tells you to put your paws up for Japan, you do so.

Blink 182 have designed a t-shirt featuring their latest muse, a bunny, for Red Cross. Additionally, Mark Hoppus has put a bunch of stuff (including the original lyrics sheet for "Adam's Song") up for auction on eBay. All proceeds from the auctions will go to Red Cross.

Warp Records has also designed a T-shirt for Red Cross.

Why? is auctioning off a bunch of rare LPs on Josiah Wolf's eBay page; all proceeds go to Hands on Tokyo.

Treat yourself to a little something from the racy Japanese production company Happy Pink Chicken before the end of the month and all the profits will go to the Japanese Red Cross.

The Big Pink drummer Akiko Matsuura is selling limited-edition T-shirts with his side project, Comanechi.
