Your Weekend In Nightlife, Starring Caribou, Frankie Knuckles, Trouble & Bass, Night People, and, Uh, LCD Soundsystem

There's no getting around it, this is LCD Soundsystem week. Buy your tickets on Craigslist and be scorned by James Murphy forever if you must--sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

But hey, other things are happening this week too! Tropical dance fete Que Bajo?! has relocated to a new home for their Thursday night getdown, taking over the main space of Le Poisson Rouge tonight, March 31. The party features cumbia, salsa, dancehall, kuduro, moombahton, Latin house, and other warm weather tunes--expect to sweat for real. GHE20 G0TH1K maven Venus X joins residents Geko Jones and Uproot Andy for a special "old school reggaeton" set, while Houston's Panchitron provides more of a Latin house groove. Venus X does not mess around when it comes to queer nightlife (check this Twitter fight with Diplo), so be prepared for the onslaught of her intensely dancing party regulars. We've seen epically emboldened salsa queens flit around the dance floor, recruiting partners out of wallflowers--standing in the background is not really an option. Que Bajo is for dancing, especially tonight. Tickets are $10 in advance.

If you're looking for more of the same in the East Village, head to Nublu as Nu-Mark celebrates the release of his Take Me With You mix. Best known for his work with Jurassic 5 (and most specifically, "What's Golden"), the DJ's mix is a bit different than you'd think: 75-minutes of samba, cumbia, calypso, rumba, Afrobeat and Balkan Beat. We're interested to see how this plays out live, especially with soul and funk aficionado Rich Medina and Nublu's own Greg Caz sharing soundtrack duties for the night. But have no doubt that whatever the mix, it will be amazing. Tickets are $10 in advance. Nublu is tiny, so we recommend you cop them now.

Hopefully you'll have gotten the tropical booty shaking out of your system by Friday, because the weekend is for electronic fuzz, house beats, and disco jams. If you're still bummed on missing out on LCD Soundsystem, or just need another surge of enthusiasm, head to the LCD Soundsystem "Pre-Party" at Le Bain on Friday. DFA homegirl Justine D and Justin Miller host a disco soiree in the sky to celebrate and to say farewell to the label's most loved dance group--in true form, all their friends have come along for the ride. The night features DJ sets by Juan Maclean, the drunk-dance revelry of Shit Robot, and we're more than certain that they'll have a few more guests up their sleeve. (As someone who has tickets to LCD's show the next night at MSG, we'll hope that James Murphy takes the night off, but he has been known to show up at these things with a frequency.) No cover, doors at 10pm. Be there then or risk spending your night on the sidewalk.

To celebrate a legend of a different kind, head to District 36 for a Friday night with the "Godfather of Chicago House," Frankie Knuckles. At this point, the man needs no real introduction--he invented the term "house," after all. Tonight he takes on the venue's insane sound system alongside Latin dance fiend Hector Romero and Basic NYC residents Sleepy and Boo. Expect some of that sinister, gritty Chicago sound, rare grooves alongside house anthems, and some tech and acid-house in the mix. Tickets are $10 before midnight with RSVP, and increase after 12 at the door. In the meantime, take a listen to Knuckles' brand new "Mix of the Brokenhearted." It's not quite as gloomy as it sounds.

A little farther uptown, there's another massive dance fete, this time at the Hudson Hotel's Good Units as the Trouble & Bass collective host their first big throwdown of the year, featuring a handful of the UK's finest bass manipulators. BBC1's Toddla T headlines the party with what we'll hope is a set of dubstep, gritty bass, bassline garage, hints of techno, and maybe even dancehall finds from his recording sessions in Jamaica. Also scheduled to appear are Digital Soundboy's Redlight, R&S' Untold, and Trouble & Bass residents The Captain and club destroyer Star Eyes. Brace yourself for hippie dubstep ravers and rockabilly bass babes. (I'm serious.) The party is 18+ and tickets are $10.

On Saturday, if you decide not to hawk your grandma's jewelry to get into that last LCD MSG show, we'll suggest you try for Cut Copy instead. At least their sold-out show at Terminal 5 has plenty of tickets on Craigslist--and they're reasonably priced. Otherwise, head back to Le Bain, this time for an evening with the Night People. They are, of course, the ragtag team of disco fiends, house revelers, and '80s enthusiasts Eli Escobar, Blu Jemz, and Lloydski with special guest from Australian babe and Hoops DJ Anna Lunoe. Jemz will be celebrating the release of his first video under side project Mobroder (alongside DJ Hoff and Spank Rock), so anticipate this free fete becomings a little extra rowdy. While there is no cover charge, we recommend that you get there early and drop every name in your inbox.

If you must venture into Brooklyn at some point, try Mister Saturday Night's warehouse party featuring Caribou (the creator of my absolute favorite dance track of 2010). We'll be honest, it's hard to guess what Snaith will play as a man behind turntables instead of an endless number of gadgets and microphones. He's a smart guy, and one that leans towards the dancier side of rock, which will make an interesting evening alongside residents Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter's love of house, house, house, and disco. Here's hoping it will be as beautiful and brilliant as everything else we've come to expect from Caribou recently: Euro disco grooves, rock kicks, swoony pop--we want all of it. (I'm secretly hoping that he'll get all Tim Sweeney on us and go into a bout of New Wave, post-punk, amid the catchier disco remixes of experimental dance jams.)

Elsewhere in Brooklyn, FIXED takes over Williamsburg's Glasslands with a lineup of live electronic acts. New York dance-pop outfit Bikini headline the revelry alongside Ghostly International's dreamy electronic producer and MPC master Gold Panda. The latter is known to mix in all sorts of left-field samples. Take "You," for example. Fixed residents JDH and Dave P play before, after, and between sets. Tickets are $15 at the door.
