Eminem And Royce da 5'9" To Revive Bad Meets Evil

Earlier this month, the Voice's Philip Mlynar took a look at the dilemma faced by Slaughterhouse, the all-star underground rap crew recently signed to Eminem's imprint, Shady Records. Balancing their credibility with the profit-making aims of a major label might be tricky in the current moment, but, Mlynar argued, "Slaughterhouse are finally rolling with the right team" now that they're on board with Eminem and his crew. Today's announcement that Em and Slaughterhouse member Royce da 5'9" would revive their Bad Meets Evil collaboration--which was last spotted together on record in 1999--would seem to be the first piece of evidence bearing out that hypothesis.

The EP released by the pair--still untitled, so as to draw out the news cycle to its maximum capacity--is set to come out on June 14, and it'll certainly help re-elevate the profiles of both Royce and his supergroup. But could Eminem, whose biggest hit of recent vintage has been a gloppy, Skylar Grey-penned duet with Rihanna, be benefiting as well, trading on the credibility of his new protégés as a way to gain back credibility from those fans who thought he went a little soft on Relapse? Time will tell. (Let's just hope that me merely asking this question doesn't land me on Royce's blogger hit list, since, as Mlynar noted in his piece, people of our ilk tend to make him kind of punch-in-the-facey.)
