Today a minor online kerfuffle ensued when the homepage of Fox Nation—the sort of Huffington Posty side of Fox News, full of aggregation and stories from "citizen journalists" that stoke extra outrage thanks to their being branded and promoted by Rupert Murdoch's empire—headlined its story on President Barack Obama's birthday barbecue by declaring "Obama's Hip-Hop BBQ Didn't Create Jobs." (You know, for all those people who were wondering where today's meager employment gains came from.) The dubbing of this event as a "hip-hop BBQ" is a bit odd since the entertainment consisted of Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, and Ledisi; judging by the image that ran above the headline, it seems to come from the fact that Jay-Z and Chris Rock and Charles Barkley were in attendance. (This, of course, raises another question: Did whatever poor Fox Nation art director tasked with pulling wire-service images to illustrate this story confuse Charles Barkley with Cee Lo Green's Danger Mouse collab?) At least there was a bemused response at this not-very-coded bit of racial language on Twitter: Behold, the best examples of the #HipHopBBQActs hashtag.
