For me it has to be "Plays Live" That album perfectly caught the Gabriel live experience. It also has the only recording of one of my faves.... I Go Swimming , featuring the "King of the bottom end " Tony Levin !!!!!

As I've been keeping an eye on this post the last couple of days, I'm fascinated by the fact that Peter Gabriel 4 a.k.a. Security is trouncing the more popular So and the more critically acclaimed PG 3 (my favorite).

I'd hazard a guess that Security draws love from such a wide cross-section of Gabriel lovers, because it has the fan-friendliest blend of experimentation/worldbeat ("Kiss of Life," "San Jacinto") and pop songs ("Shock the Monkey," "I Have the Touch"). It's sort of a centrist Peter Gabriel album.

Lotta love for Us, too, which just mystifies me. It's a fine record, but if you're going to go with Gabriel in straight-up pop mode, So is better on every level: better duet (Kate Bush vs. Sinéad), better globally-minded stuff ("Red Rain" vs. "Come Talk to Me"), better hits ("Sledghammer" and "Big Time" vs. "Steam"; I will say that I adore "Digging in the Dirt").

Peter is my musical demigod and I am but a mere and humble servant. Hahaha. Any time I can hear his music my spirit gets to truly sing. Favorite album is Birdy and let me not be deterred !

I'm currently enjoying Peter Gabriel's newest cd - New Blood and enjoy all of his music.  However, if I had to choose only one of PG's albums as my favorite, it would be PG-IV (Security)! Can't wait to see him on David Letterman's show -- perhaps I'll even see it "live" -- that would be extra special!

Having seen every Peter Gabriel tour since the 70's I would love to see this too. Saw the New Blood Orchestra at Radio City. Met Peter after the show, and then saw it again this past summer in Philadelphia. Spectacular!!  Favorite album?  "Security"!!!   2nd Fav-- "Plays Live"

That was Camden, not Philly. If it was Philly, I could've gone. (I don't have a car, so I'd have to take public transportation.) Lucky you getting to see PG in Camden! I hear he did "Secret World" there. Radio City was intense, wasn't it? Especially since he performed the day after the Times Square car bomb was found -- and that night PG still had the balls to perform Talking Heads' "Listening Wind." Great memories.

Security is my favorite album. I have loved Peter Gabriels music for the last 30 years. Just got the album and would take a walk down memory lane if I could see him live again.

Peter is ALWAYS amazing to see live!  My favorite PG album?  That's a tough one, but I'd probably have to go with "Us."  It's a close call between that and "Security!"

My absolute PG CD was "EVE", a CD-ROM that came out about 1995. Does that count?

"So," mainly because because "We Do What We're Told" allowed me to show off my Milgram experiment knowledge in a high school psych class.  Also, "Don't Give Up."

Shaking the Tree: Sixteen Golden Greats

By the way, isn't that the same pose that Steve Jobs strikes on the cover of his autobiography? Gabriel seems to be wearing a black turtleneck, too. Hmmm...

I see that you submitted this comment by signing in with Yahoo. Perhaps it doesn't qualify as a valid contest entry since the first step says you have to sign up for a Disqus account. Maura?

While I'm on the topic: Why does this contest require a Disqus account for entry? The "Where Am I Eating?" contest on Fork in the Road doesn't; they just invite the winner to send in an e-mail to claim the prize. I assume they just check the e-mail address attached to the winning comment and see if the person claiming to be the winner uses it when claiming the prize.

Oh man, I should have clarified. I just don't want people posting anonymously—they can post through Yahoo or whatever too. Thank you!

As a member of the SotC family, I assume I am ineligible, but I love Peter Gabriel, so:

Peter Gabriel 3 (1980) [aka Melting Face].
