What Are Your Musical New Year's Resolutions For 2012?

• 1) Listen to every album I like at least five times. I've got almost every Green Ova Undergrounds release on my iPod, but I couldn't name more than a handful of songs if they came up on shuffle. 2) Stop liking songs on Tumblr to bookmark them and then never getting around to them. 3) Write at least a capsule review of everything I've heard enough to digest, just so I'm forced to develop my thoughts beyond "It's pretty good" or "It reminds me of (x)."

Maura: 1 Black Keys: 0 - Go to more gigs; it's a great way to support musicians I love and also find new bands (I have fallen in love with so many of my favorite band's previously unknown to me opening acts) - Stop picking fights on the Internet, because honestly discussing music is so much more fun when you treat it as an actual conversation rather than some username or blogger just admonishing you (the comment sections of many blogs could consider this, too). I like yr resolution to stay out of comment sections. My resolution is just to stay out of Stereogum's comment section. -Apply more patience to my listening habits. It's easy to be just like FUCK THIS ALBUM after two minutes into a song, given the glut of music we all have access to now, but how ridiculous is it to miss out on an album you actually own but never bothered to listen to because you have 43523593053 other albums to listen to and are easily distracted (guilty) Relatedly, I don't have to hear EVERYTHING

• I'm going to go with be more open-minded about and patient with new artists. 

• 1. Learn more about how the industry nowaways actually works (compared to even 10 years ago). This will help me un/sympathise better with artists, labels, services and providers like Spotify, Apple... Downloading talks to listen to while commuting would be a good start. 2. Find at least one track I like by an artist from at least 50 different countries. 3. Less listing, more making.

• - Look for music on my own instead of limiting myself to what comes down the review/blog transom. Google names. Go looking up people again.  - Do a better job of following up on old favorites, aka the WHAT THE HELL, VEDA HILLE HAD AN ALBUM OUT? resolution. - No tracks/albums untouched in downloads or waiting to be ripped for more than a week.
