Happy (Happy Happy) 75th Birthday, Philip Glass

East Village resident Philip Glass, the prolific composer of film scores, symphonies, operas and ensemble music, turns 75 years old today.

The Village Voice and Sound of the City will be looking at Glass over the next month, beginning with covering the premiere of his Symphony No. 9 at his Carnegie Hall birthday celebration tonight. Stay tuned!

Until then, we will let Trey Parker and Matt Stone serenade you with their interpretation of a Glass holiday song, "Happy, Happy, Happy." (The song was composed for the 1997 South Park episode "Mr. Hankee, The Christmas Poo," and though it was ostensibly the music for South Park Elementary's non-holiday holiday concert, its appeal was so universal that it will work fine to celebrate the birthday of the composer Parker and Stone were satirizing.)
