T.J. Miller performs with his sister Morgan in Miller Time at The PIT on Monday.
Wednesday, July 30th
The Producers Club, 8 p.m. Free.
British comics in L.A. sometimes have it easy. Is your last name Brand? Or Izzard? Come right this way, sir. It's all green lights for you. Gina Yashere had to muscle her way in, earning herself a Tonight Show credit the old-fashioned way: through hard graft. You'll be glad she did when you see this show. And if you like her, check her out on the cult UK cartoon Bromwell High: a brilliant, South Park-like take on multicultural London. Joining Gina on her visit from California are twisted character comic Amber Nelson, Staten Island's lost boy J.F. Harris, and others. All for the low, low price of free? A steal.
Thursday, July 31st
The Brooklyn Comedy Festival is coming back for a second triumphant year, and as a warm-up, they're hosting a little get together at The Stand. Yannis Pappas will do a set. And if you're not already familiar, seek out his two great character alter-egos: Mr. Panos, Greek owner of The Baby Socrates Diner in Queens, and Maurica, a pre-operative transsexual Puerto Rican. Joining Yannis will be Mark DeMayo, Giulia Rozzi, and a hatful of others.
Friday, August 1st
Blogologues: Welcome To The Jungle
The C.O.W. Theater, 9.30 p.m. $20.
Blogologues is a sketch comedy show featuring scripts culled 100% from the internet and performed word-for-word. Productions center around a theme, and the current show inspiration: animals! They bring to life the Internet's views on furry cruises, animal tail butt plugs, people who think they're animals, and much more. If you can't catch the show tonight, you can go tomorrow too.
Jana and Lauren Presents
The Magnet, 7 p.m. $7.
Jana Schmieding and Lauren Olson host this monthly character showcase, presenting eight badass NYC sketch comedy actors to perform a new original character. It's consistently fun and weird. Tonight features comics featured at the UCB and on Conan, so give it a spin.
