"Smooth" Is the Greatest Song of All Time

A great moment in music history.
This summer marked the 15 year anniversary of the greatest song of all time. I KNOW. I couldn't believe it either but 15 years have come and gone since the first time you heard  "Smooth" by Santana featuring Rob Thomas. FIFTEEN. YEARS. CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THAT!?

"Smooth" is a song that has transcended both time and space. Santana's guitar riffs. The lyrics. Rob Thomas' hair. It's hard to believe that the heavens smiled upon us and gave us this great gift. Though Santana is playing a show at Jones Beach tonight with a different crooner with two first names ('sup Rod Stewart), "Smooth" remains one of the guitarist's best collaborations. But why? Why is this the greatest song of all time? I'm glad you asked. I will tell you.

Do you hear that? Of course you don't because it's a GIF, but I know in your head you can hear those first few guitar notes. You're just sitting there living life and BAM. You hear those notes and you know. It's "Smooth," and it's time to dance. An interesting thing happens when a human experiences the first few notes of this song. Dance moves become better. Happiness becomes happier. Friendships become stronger. We all already know the lyrics, but there is only one man who can deliver them properly unto the world. Sing to us, Rob.

"MAN ITS A HOT ONE" How is this literally the most relevant lyric of all time? The first five words of this song are "MAN IT'S A HOT ONE." JUST THINK ABOUT THAT. Rob Thomas is a weatherman and also a genius.

THERE IS SO MUCH HAPPENING HERE. Rob Thomas what is your HAIR.

THOSE EARRINGS.

THAT. SHIRT.

Where on earth did you get that shirt?

"MY SPANISH HARLEM MONA LISA."

I WANT TO BE A SPANISH HARLEM MONA LISA.

Let's be real: every Santana song slaps. He is having so much fun and makes you wish you were having as much fun as he is. This music video was shot in Harlem. I could get there by train but common logic tells me that Carlos Santana will not be standing there waiting for me with his band. TRUST ME I ALREADY THOUGHT ABOUT GOING THERE. If anyone is willing to re-create this video just let me know. It's my life's dream.

It's not even in the top 500.

I actually never read it, though that sounds like my step pops. I have to keep telling him he's not Mexican!

And "On the Road" is the greatest book. It's about a white guy that uses money from his aunt to travel around the country, until he finds a cute Mexican girl and fantasizes about being Mexican. Then gets a job picking fruit, taking that job away from a real Mexican, and once he finds out what it's like to really be Mexican (and he's gotten all he could from the girl) he begs his aunt for more money (to be white again) and goes back to taking advantage of white women. Great book. If they ever make it a movie, this song can be on the soundtrack.

Yeah a song about a white guy going to the hood and accusing the girl he's in love with of being a slut and tell her to stop or he won't wave his magic white wand and take her away.

Slow news day?? I hate this song. No where near a great song like classic Santana hits.

You could reasonably be forgiven for thinking that this is the greatest song ever, if you hadn't actually listened to the rest of the album..
