Charlamagne Tha God is a professional instigator. Often, on Power 105's The Breakfast Club morning show, he needles guests in a cloak of "just keeping it real," looking to provoke a reaction. He's an asshole, basically. But that's his job, and he's very good at it.

A few months back he tried like hell to bait Kanye into a fight on air (always on air). Kanye was too smart to, he'd say later, give Charlamagne what he wanted. Well, yesterday morning Charlamagne got what he wanted. He didn't really even try that hard, and he almost ended up getting his ass whooped by Fredro Star of Onyx anyway. There is video, and it is glorious.

[UPDATE: Charlamagne Won't Be Happy Until Fredro Starr of Onyx Knocks Him Out, Apparently

Onyx, for those who don't know, are a gangsta rap group from the late '80s/ early '90s who are supremely, comically hard on some CB4 shit. After their star as a group dimmed, Fredro Starr, their bespectacled, pint-sized founder, began taking many acting roles, and eventually ended up where most HARD AS NAILS gangsta rappers end up: on the set of Brandi's TV series Moesha. This lead to him eventually tell reporters that Brandi gave him head once, because he's classy.

Now, it's very understandable if you don't remember Fredro's turn on Moesha or the terrible quote he gave about Brandi when asked about life on set there. But Charlamagne does, and almost immediately after the interview starts he brings it up, and it goes over about as well as a fart in church. Some time passes, and if you watch Fredro after Charlamagne's careless aside, you can see it's eating him up. And so, at around minute eight in the video above, he unloads on Charlamagne, by first making fun of the time "Tha God" was jumped, on tape, in front of his radio station. Fredro calls him a "pussy" a dozen or so times and things get very heated.

Much to his credit, Charlamagne doesn't rise to Fredro's ire, choosing instead to deflect it. Because, honestly, that's what guys like him do. They needle and needle and needle, and then back down once they're called out for it. It just happens to be the right move here. So, kudos? Anyway, the two come to a half-hearted understanding toward the interview's end (which, beyond just the tiff, is very captivating and well done), and all live to see another day. It's pretty great seeing Charlamagne get checked though.
