Tonight: The Black Keys at Terminal 5

Posted at 11:03 AM, May 15, 2008

The duo’s new Danger Mouse-produced Attack & Release sounds like it was recorded in a way bigger room than Magic Potion et al—a good look for a band who rely on their drum sound to fill the bassist’s slot. They are as backward-looking as ever—more so even than the White Stipes, maybe because Dan Auerbach has nothing close to Jack White’s chops—but also know their nostalgia trip’s a bit goofy. (A&R’s finale: “Things Ain't Like They Used to Be.”) The band may be closer to the real thing than they think. Also: Buffalo Killers. —ZACH BARON.
