While California sun-suckers like Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps, and No Age have that whole no-gazer big-hooks/gnarled-textures thing on lock, Brooklyn’s own Vivian Girls have them all beat as far as catchy melodies are concerned. Their upcoming debut full-length is a mutant cassette-quality howl that’s somewhere between the Ronettes and the B-52’s if they were produced into water-damaged rainbow-mush by Skullfower. Openers Best Friends Forever have nothing to do with Best Fwends or Friends Forever, and they should really know better. 8 p.m., Death By Audio, 49 S 2nd St. Brooklyn.—Christopher R. Weingarten
