This Week's Voice: Ice-T and Richard Hell on the Election, They Might Be Giants, Craig Finn, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and More

In this week's Village Voice, writers, artists, and performers share their takes on next week's presidential election: Richard Hell, William Gibson, Ice-T, Eileen Myles, and beyond.

In Music, Rob Harvilla revisits the inspirational grandeur of They Might Be Giants' classic album, Flood: "At one point, the band brings out a guest vocalist named David Driver, who's wearing a T-shirt with an upper- and lowercase "D" on it, and somebody in the crowd yells out "Helvetica!" As in the font. We are among friends."

Rob Trucks interviews the Hold Steady's Craig Finn and the Drive-By Truckers' Patterson Hood. Will their post-election double-bill extravaganza at Terminal 5 be a fiesta or a wake?

Reed Fischer listens in as Pink serves up Funhouse, the most energetic divorce record probably ever.

Plus reviews of CMJ-faves School of Seven Bells and the Secret Machines, O'Death's Broken Hymns, Limbs, and Skin, Arthur Russell's Love Is Overtaking Me, and John Legend's Evolver.

In Film, J. Hoberman takes in BAM's retro of Finnish melodrama king Teuvo Tulio, while Robert Wilonsky gets out of the way as Kevin Smith blows his wad with Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Philippe Garnier rediscovers the films of nouvelle vague contemporary Jean-Daniel Pollet at Anthology; Tim Grierson, meanwhile, heads to Film Forum, where Rosemary's Baby turns 40.

Plus reviews of Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre at IFC and the weird passion project Antonio Gaudí.

In Books, Julie Phillips reads Words in Air: The Complete Correspondence Between Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell.

In Art, Brendan Spiegel makes his way into Brooklyn to discover Industry City, a new kind of arts district located somewhere between the elevated Gowanus Expressway and a desolate stretch of New York Harbor.

In Theater, Michael Feingold reviews Jeremy Piven's Broadway foray in David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow, and Alexis Soloski sees the 13P-produced Crawl, Fade to White.

Plus Michael Musto lives La Dolce Musto, Ask a Mexican!, and more...
