A Half-Minuted Animated Remake of Quentin Tarantino's 1994 Hit Movie That Stars Rabbits and Is Totally Hilarious

A few weeks ago I bemoaned how pointless AMC's censored version of Pulp Fiction was, so I did not expect to discover over the holiday weekend a half-minute animated remake of Quentin Tarantino's 1994 hit movie that stars rabbits and is totally hilarious. The 30-Second Bunnies Theatre company--John Mathot, Douglas McInness, and creator/producer Jennifer Shiman--are currently working on their re-enactment of Twilight, and also promise Hellraiser, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and a "two-part Harry Potter medley" for 2009. In the meantime, you can enjoy the Bunnies performing their lickety-split versions of fifty different films, including The Big Chill, Fight Club, Jaws, My Dinner with Andre, It's a Wonderful Life, and The Shining.

Shiman's animation is inventive but completely reverential to the source (just take a look at the chiaroscuro lighting she effects for Casablanca, or the way she draws the facial expressions on Ted Knight's uptight country club lord in Caddyshack), but credit is also goes to Mathot and McInness for their voices. Lines like "Royale with cheese" and "In the fifth, your ass goes down" and "I wore this up my ass for two years" take on a whole new resonance when uttered in the Bunnies's signature voices--deadpan, wiseacre squeaks that sound something like the Chipmunks crossed with Bugs Bunny.

Coincidentally, the troupe includes both a "bleeped" and an "unbleeped" version of one of its adaptations, Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. Naturally, the "unbleeped" version is amusing ("I'm fucking deformed"), but the "bleeped" cut is evidence that a QT movie purged entirely of its profanity is not necessarily joyless. "For you, I'll tip. But I usually don't tip," is just plain funny coming out of anyone's mouth, whether that person is Steve Buscemi or a Bunny. Take note, AMC.--Benjamin Strong
