Dept. of Be Careful What You Wish For: The Annex Is Now the "Doghouse Saloon"

We were not the only ones to grumble about the Annex, whose off-brand booking practices and sullen bouncers never quite coalesced into a place in which you might actually want to spend any time. But at least it was a venue, that booked bands on occasion. As opposed to what it is now: The Doghouse Saloon, elegantly summed here by Bowery Boogie:

Proclaiming themselves "drinking consultants," this new frat-hole replacement allegedly has ten TVs, free hot dogs until 4 am, and holds regular beer pong tournaments. And of course, lest we forget, the monthly "Bikini Beach Party."

The logo for the new spot is pretty immortal too:

Actually stopped by the Doghouse last weekend, it was a refreshing site. Place was packed, good music, good drink and FREE HOT DOGS. Game room upstairs. Don't be so afraid of the new, this place is fun.

Annex was one of those places that never reached its potential most of the time. Once in a while though it was great. I saw Action Painters and Drums play there this summer and it was one of the coolest shows of the year, and Ruff Club was of course a blast. IT's not really surprising but it is sad more for what replaced it. LES, RIP

Joseph says:

this place is aweful even as sports bar its huge, and so brightly lit, it only has four tv's, and the big screens are placed so that you cant see them from the bar. you end up watching a 12''. the place is always empty. the music is techno on the weekends... your joking right? its filled w bridge and tunnel on weekends and is just dead empty on a weekday. and the hot dogs give you gas so just pass on that if you ever want to get laid.

Annex Sucked.
This place sucks times 100!

Cliche.
Cheesy.

I'm being completely honest when I say, I have had a drink here, and it is god awful. Mostly it's dead, and when it's not dead... it still sucks.

Sorry. Write em' how I see em'.
