Yes In My Backyard is a semiweekly column showcasing MP3s from new and emerging local talent.

Brooklyn's Sundelles write the kind of enormous pop songs that want to liberate themselves from the shackles of their recording equipment--think grungy early Beatles, the most ecstatic Jonathan Richman apoplexy, or a doo-wop 45 blaring through a tiny speaker. Sure it's all lo-fi, unpolished and distorted as all fucking get out, but according to frontman Sam Sundos, it's no posture. "Are we blown out? I like to think of us as being a really pretty beautiful pop band that recorded on shitty equipment. I wanted the songs to sound really big and beautiful," he says. "I can't wait for an opportunity to really do these songs justice."

These three sunshiney Southern California transplants might get a chance soon, thanks to their growing profile (next month, they open for the Slits). Their track "Keep It To Yourself" is a typical blast of giddy attitude, churning like Brian Wilson conducting the grittiest Nuggets amp-mutilators with a mouth full of warm beer and Valentine's Day chocolates. The video, directed by Russ Finklestein, is appropriately colorful and fun and full of balloons and happy kids and hot dogs and confetti and all that good stuff.

What inspired "Keep It To Yourself?"

A girl.

Tell me about the music video. How did you guys come up with the concept?

My friend Russ Finkelstein was out here visiting. We just started throwing around ideas. We wanted it to be colorful, fun, and youthful. I wasn't aware of a real concept other than that.

Did you inhale or swallow any confetti?

The confetti wasn't what I was worried about getting in my mouth. We had to recycle the confetti shot after shot and we don't own a Swiffer.

Was the video really just an excuse to play at Coney Island?

That was my first time to Coney Island. I loved it, everything about it.

What's your favorite part about Coney?

The Cyclones. Our good friend took me and a bunch of other friends to go watch it. It was my first minor league game. Got rain delayed four times. It was a blast.

What's the most memorable show you've played in NYC?

Trash Bar because I cried after. But if you are asking about the best show? Playing Bowery Ballroom was really great.

What's your favorite place to eat in Brooklyn?

Birds Nest, a nice little bed and breakfast on Nassau Ave.
