The Worst Lyrics of the Decade

It has come to this: a brutal, single-elimination, March Madness-style tournament to determine the most appalling songwriting conceit of the past 10 years. With an assist from various online pals (especially our own F2K braintrust), we've waded through the torrent of political passions (and bodily fluids) unleashed in the aughts and arrived finally at a battle royale between the obvious (Black Eyed Peas) and the not-so-obvious (Liz Phair). It's a duel so dismaying, in fact, that I'm disinclined to choose between them. No winners here, alas. We are all losers. Better luck next decade. (Just kidding. The Black Eyed Peas take the final in a walk.)

Man, what does Jeremih have to do to get some recognition around this place? Not in F2K, not here, despite writing a song that is one long cringe. "Impry"?

Still worse: "Get ready for action
Don't be astounded
We switchin' positions
You feel surrounded
Just tell me where you want
your gift, girl"

I dont get why the whole Weezer collection is up there, but I guess its kind of funny...

Eminem has had some pretty raunchy lyrics before but thats a pretty bad one. I would have to agree with Liz though...thats nuts she cut a record with those lyrics...gross.......

DDB9000 says:

If I read this correctly, Liz Phair is being considered worse for one (admittedly) terrible set of lyrics, where Weezer have been committing bad lyricism since they started? Not fair! Weezer do suck big time. One of the WORST and most overrated bands ever!

Liz at least has written some good lyrics, unlike (please somebody, drown him in several) Rivers Cuomo.

I demand a recount!

DDB9000 says:

Ah, semi-apologies. I could not originally open the entire bracket, so I could not see the right side showing the BEPs 'winning' (when you said 'The Black Eyed Peas take the final in a walk.', I thought this was your prediction). So I'm glad at least they got their just desserts. Still, Weezer deserve their own reward. Maybe a reward for their length of disservice to music and lyrics?

CheebaHawk says:

I personally dislike 50 cent's music but come on!

"I Love you like a fat kid love cake" is one of the best lines ever, I mean come on!

Oh and I really dislike 50's music so it hurts me to say that, but in the interests of this poll & science I feel a need to be honest.

Bread says:

That 50 Cent simile is probably the best thing he's ever written. Also way to use a Kanye lyric that was probably written by Rhymefest and isn't even his worst. That honor would have to go to "Gold Digger":

She was supposed to buy shorty Tyco with your money
She went to the doctor got lipo with your money
She walking around looking like Michael with your money
Shoulda got that insured, GEICO for your moneyyyyyyyy

Hideous.
