Our fine cohorts at the L.A. Weekly report on the recent, ill-advised street-art exploits of one Roger Waters, who has apparently commissioned folks in both L.A. and NYC to tag a Dwight Eisenhower quote onto various graffiti hot spots to promo his latest tour. Haven't seen evidence of this around here (have you?), but out on the West Coast, the result wound up on an Elliott Smith memorial wall. (Which apparently gets futzed with fairly regularly, but still.) Folks are most displeased. Somebody better be keeping an eye on that Shepherd Fairey mural.

Hey, There's A New Elliott Smith Song Called "Grand Mal"

Pitchfork passes along an XO-outtake from the still-sadly-departed Elliott Smith. There's an interesting witch-hunt afoot at the Sweet Adeline fansite as to where the track came from and who leaked it--the whole conversation has a distinct, where'd you score, is there more, and can I maybe cop too? feel. Fair enough: "Grand Mal" is your typical blindingly sad Smith fare, with lyrics about all different kinds of falls, most of them grim. "Grand Mal paid you a call, on the avenue/ Bright white shot through the night, and I followed it to you." Fitting, at least, for the type of Portland day we're having right now.
