Happy Anniversary, Black Tuesday! You're 79 and still kicking!

On this date in 1929, Black Tuesday on Wall Street marked the start of the Great Depression.

Or, as we are about to call that one: "Great Depression I."

As the Scotsman in Edinburgh recalls it in its "Fact of the Day":

This day in 1929 was known is "Black Tuesday" -- so-called when Wall Street crashed, leading to the Great Depression. Shares had begun to slide dramatically on "Black Thursday" (24 October) and the fall only ended on 2 July 1932, by which time the Dow Jones Industrial Index average had dipped almost 90 per cent.
