Weiner: Out on My Own

Categories: On the Stump
Rep. Anthony Weiner kept it "real" during his noon concession speech, noting that his campaign discusses "real problems" and pitched "real plans" and "real solutions" to address them. "We believe that Democratic values need to be renewed with new ideas," he said. He also believes in the runoff system. "But this year is unique," he added, given Bloomberg's support for Dubya and umpteen millions to spend. The decision to pull out was "made on my own," Weiner insisted. "This wasn't a decision that was urged upon me. It's the right thing to do." It was also a smart move, what will polls showing Ferrer would win a runoff anyway. And as a matter of fact, even after Weiner appears with Freddy on Thursday as the congressman said he would, the election law apparently will still require a runoff if Ferrer fails to nick 40 percent.
